Mozart, Beethoven, and the Nature of Genius

Description

The nature of genius has always intrigued us – especially musical genius. In some cases, it seems to be best characterized as a remarkable kind of inspiration that permits the artist to exceed his own abilities – as if suddenly possessed. Is it some outside force, or perhaps an unexpected rush of the association cortex links in the artist’s brain?

In other cases, genius seems best explained as a natural gift, an extra talent that enables the production of masterpiece after masterpiece. This facinating presentation by Yale Music Professor Craig Wright explores the concept of artistic genius and how it came to be symbolized by two great composers: Mozart and Beethoven.
