Bryan Alexander is an internationally known futurist, researcher, and teacher, working in the field of higher education’s future. He is the recipient of the Council of Independent Colleges Academic Leadership Award, and has been featured in the Washington Postthe Wall Street Journal, and on MSNBC. He recently published Academia Next: The Futures of Higher Education, which won an Association of Professional Futurists award.

What will happen to higher education in the years to come?  How will colleges and universities change? This talk explores the major forces reshaping academia. Georgetown University Professor Bryan Alexander, author of Academia Next, will  start by considering how campuses are already changing, including shifts in enrollment, student body, and business model. Next, he’ll examine the demographic, technological, geopolitical, and economic drivers already starting to squeeze colleges, and how colleges are responding. What might new campuses look like?  He’ll offer several scenarios of academic institutions redesigned around open education, mixed reality, and a shrunken market – concluding with a glimpse of higher ed decades from now.
